Hope by Emily Dickinson As a literary woman of the nineteenth century, Emily Dickinson wrote, ? ?Hope? is a things with feathers- that perches in the soul- and sings a tune without the words- and never stops- at all.? Are you listening? Does your soul too sing a melody, an ongoing tune to which you delicately move, and never stop? Here Dickinson suggests an aspect of life, a struggle for spiritual freedom, that applies to many women within the nineteenth century, as well as the women of today. My consciousness speaks to me; a spark of hope rests inside my soul, hoping to emerge into the sunlight of each new day. I am a woman; I am a delicate woman who listens to Dickinson?s fine words. I listen to the tune that never ends, in a constant search for achieving my own ?space.? Everyday, I struggle to free my feathered bird from its cage. Dickinson has identified with her internal struggle as a woman, to achieve an outer space, and as the bird, she freed herself from the cage that held her spiritual soul. A caged bird symbolizes Dickinson?s soul. Similarly, fictional women in nineteenth century literature are caged birds. Consider for example, Kate Chopin?s, Edna Pontellier in The Awakening and Charolette Perkins Gilman?s, Woman, in ?The Yellow Wallpaper.? Initially in Kate Chopin?s, The Awakening we meet a fair, frail, passionate woman, Edna Pontellier, whose destiny is to fall into spiritual depression. She is a caged bird that cannot be released from her own spiritual confinement until she recognizes her own strength to do so. Edna?s childish, capricious tendencies, concerning her submissiveness towards her ?lovers? and adultery towards her husband create confusion in finding the outlet for her freedom and passion. ... ...soul within me? Who keeps the bird from singing a melody which I understand I ask the same question for the fictional women I have studied. ?Is it within one?s strength to determine who has the key to the cage As I continue to struggle for the answers to my questions, I continue to listen to the bird that is perched within my soul, singing the ongoing tune- that never stops at all. The Honor Code

This course will survey the significant events, personalities, and changes in military affairs that occurred between the colonial period and the present day. Students are expected to grasp complex theories and ideas pertaining to the interpretation of American Military History. Requirements: Students are required to attend all classes and are expected to keep up with the assigned readings. Students are also expected to submit four graded writing assignments and participate on four discussion days.Finally, each student is expected to complete an in-class mid-term and a final examination held during the University's prescribed examination day. Grade Breakdown: Writing Assignments: 30% (1 0% each) Final Project: 15% Participation: 5% Mid-term: 25% Final Exam: 25% Writing assignments: Students will submit three typed response papers, each 3-5 pages (750 to 1,200 words) in length, in response to three assigned books. These assignments are due on February 3, March 3, and April 7. They will be in response to J. K.Martin's and Edward Lenders A Respectable Army, Perry Gaminess's and Grady Machinery's Attack and Die, and Robert Lessee's Helmet for My Pillow. TO receive a high grade, each student must demonstrate four things: First, each student must concisely and accurately explain the book's central argument. Since Lessee's book is a memoir, there will not be an argument as such, but a central theme. Identify the central theme. ) State the thesis clearly in the first paragraph. Second, each student must summarize the evidence or examples utilized by the author.Third, each student must offer an analytical critique of the book. (This means critiquing the scholarship, not the author's writing style). Fourth, students must cite their sources, and to do this, they must use footnotes or endnotes. Read the final book assigned to this course, Craig Mulligan's The Unforgiving Minute, and write a critical review of it. Also, when it comes to history, many internet sites can factually incorrect. There is no supervision to prevent amateurs from posting erroneous interpretations of history. If you absolutely must cite Internet web sites, you must cite the web address, and if you use a quote, use appropriate quotation procedures. E) Paraphrasing is more than changing a verb tense or reordering a list.Essentially, paraphrasing is used to summarize another author's text. A paraphrased passage must be cited. F) Use a Style Guide. Purchase a style guide and refer to it. Your instructor may suggest one that is specific to an academic discipline. You may also ask a reference librarian for recommendations. 3) The High Cost of Plagiarism: Plagiarism can ruin your reputation and cost you your professional career, along with the respect of your peers. Creativity Is The Base Of Human Development - 1837 Words

Creativity is the base of human development. School’s were first created to help their people to be skillful and mentally capable of withstanding all problems. Times have changed, and the morals of education have altered as well. In today’s world students from the U.S. are taught and pushed to memorize information instead of being encouraged to learn how to think critically through it. Professors should emphasize more on the importance of ingenuity, than the importance of getting a good grade. Although schools in America have flourished, the individuality of these students has decreased. Today s educational system has affected creativity in a negative manner because there is more to intelligence than one s capacity for logic. The†¦show more content†¦Overall, students, teachers, and parents need to teach children and young adolescents the significance of creativity and how it can positively affect one’s life. â€Å"IBM poll of 1,500 CEOs identified creativity as the No. 1 â€Å"leadership competency† of the future† (Bronson and Merryman). Creativity consists of both convergent and divergent thinking. Convergent thinking deals with the skill and drill mechanisms of the brain; the idea of an answer is either right or wrong. Divergent thinking consists of being able to construct multiple solutions to one problem. Brainstorming would be an example of divergent thinking because it is an outline of possible ideas connected to one topic. Within a classroom convergent thinking is more addressed and taught, than divergent thinking which could be a possible reason towards why creativity scores have plummeted. A common misconception of creativity is those who are more talented within the arts are more likely to be skilled within the area of originality. Although, psychologist and professor at the University of Georgia’s Mark Runco stated that, â€Å"when scholars gave creativity tasks to both engineering majors and music majors their scores laid down within the same averages and standard deviations† (Bronson and Merryman). Creativity, like any other material, can be trained, practiced, and manipulated to become muscle memory. Dancers, athletes, musicians, and artists each represent different forms of creativity and perfected.
